Near the beginning of this series section 1. The intention of section 1. My recommendation is to skip this section and get back to it only after you have seen the rest of the series. If you do that then the series makes sense and can be followed fairly easily.

It may have been because of this section that the previous reviewer haknudsen gave a one star review. That section nearly caused me to stop watching the series myself.

It doesn’t make sense that they would put their most advanced stuff near the front of the series but that is what they did. Avoid section 1. Two main comments. This is not as thorough a course as “classroom in a book,” but much easier to follow and learn from. Of the two instructors, one a gentleman and other lady, the female instructor is exceptionally good. She makes sure if she is using lesson material she lets you know what it is, if she makes a key stroke or manipulates the program she is sure to let you know how she did it, even if you’ve been told before.

She is very thorough and teaches a great class. The gentleman, however, even though his material is good and he definitely knows his subject, he has a tendency to “just do stuff. He doesn’t have the ability to look at the lessons from the novice in my case and realize when lines just pop open or material is selected I don’t know how he did it as most of it is done off screen.

He will do this sometimes three moves deep and ta da you’re lost or can’t understand that part of the lesson. With the other instructor as comparison it is obvious. I still would recommend this to anyone learning After Effects for the first time. It has a lot of good information and if later you want a good review and more detail you can do a classroom in a book course.

This is the fourth program in the Learn by Video series that I have purchaced and it is the worst of the lot. The other three have ranged from very good to great and this one falls very short. Described as a beginer program this is well beyond that.

In one five minute subchapter we are introduced to no less than 10 processes that we have never heard of before and in such a quick way that you have to click pause every few seconds to keep up. Todd Kopriva appears to not be paid by the hour as his portions are so fast that during each of his segments you have to pause and watch repeatedly. No description of something like, “This is the blank button it will do this. Then read this brief introduction to the basic workflow and fundamental concepts in After Effects.
